Everything Moist Seems Alive: Boris Acket and Maison the Faux Build a Temple to ‘Hydrofeminism’

At MU Hybrid Art House during Dutch Design Week, artist Boris Acket and the fake fashion house Maison the Faux have built a five-part shrine to water (The Well, The Womb, The Whirl, The Wake and The Waterfall) where kinetic structures linked by clear pipes cycle endlessly between containment and deluge. Drawing on theorist Astrida Neimanis’ idea of ‘hydrofeminism’, which treats the body as mostly water, the piece pairs Acket’s technical minimalism with the Faux’s maximalism: 3D-printed gargoyle-like ornaments on sanitation-style piping, video ‘leaky saints’, candlelit altars, choral rituals by Dutch National Opera and Ballet performers, and a water bar where visitors taste three kinds of water.
