For his new show at New York’s Cristina Grajales Gallery, Fernando Mastrangelo builds tables, lamps, mirrored panels and a towering two-door cabinet whose surfaces carry panoramas of disputed land, from Greenland and Kashmir to the Golan Heights and Nagorno-Karabakh. Each piece is made by drizzling hand-dyed sand and powdered glass into Formica moulds through a half-inch slit, packing it tight without being able to see the image he’s building. The result is disarmingly beautiful landscape as a prompt to ask why these places are fought over. Source: Wallpaper*
