For more than four decades Korean-born, Maryland-based artist Jae Ko has unwound adding-machine rolls, recycled kraft paper and discarded office supplies, then rolled, twisted, compressed, soaked in sumi ink or saturated pigment, and sometimes buried them until they look like carved wood, stone or sedimentary rock. Striated, her first solo show in Belgium at 22MUSE Gallery in Antwerp (through November 28), gathers formative works plus a site-specific installation. Every ridge and groove becomes a record of the time and labour that made it. Source: Design Milk
