Victor Quiñonez — working as Marka27 — builds portraits from animated characters, patterned textiles, fashion logos and graffiti, folding the visual language of contemporary street art into Indigenous imagery and Mexican mural traditions. Born in Mexico, raised in East Dallas and now based in Brooklyn, he draws on his own experience of living between cultures and the arbitrary nature of national borders. In works like “Luchando Por Mi Alma,” a Louis Vuitton monogram, desert flora and a striped weaving collide across a single masked face.
