The Paper Ark: Lifelike Birds Emerge from Painted Paper Reliefs

The collaborative duo behind The Paper Ark — Nayan Shrimali and Venus Bird — build lifelike birds from meticulously cut and painted paper, setting each species amid the foliage of its real habitat. Their intricate reliefs double as an argument for biodiversity, using a sense of wonder to draw attention to ecology and conservation. Recent works appeared with Antler Gallery at Seattle Art Fair and in the Spring 2026 issue of Audubon Magazine.
