Lisa Mouchet, an artist and writer, and Marine Prunier, a performer and former funeral professional, have built Fermenta around a 100-page Risograph and laser-printed book combining Prunier’s texts and photographs with Mouchet’s drawings and pastels. It sits at the join between funeral legislation and the poetics of death — the rituals, foods and symbols the dead oblige the living to invent, and the ‘morbid bureaucracy’ that manages them. The June launch took the form of a culinary performance in which the pair ate a great deal of body-shaped bread.
