Erin Milez paints New York as a press of bodies: subway carriages, street corners and Times Square rendered as cramped, tightly packed compositions. Having recently moved from New York to Seattle, she began examining how urban density shapes — or forecloses — human connection. The new body of work, on view at Monya Rowe Gallery, draws on the figurative urban language of George Tooker and Jacob Lawrence.
