Taking his cue from Cord Jefferson’s Oscar-winning adaptation of Percival Everett’s Erasure, Ronald Jackson paints the cast of a film that was never made. Each oil portrait is captioned like a credit — a character, an actor, a role in a story about the performance of identity. The conceit lets Jackson build a whole imagined production out of paint, and turns the gallery wall into a piece of speculative casting.
