Menslies: Ten Years of Posters for China’s Club Scene, Deliberately Worn In

Designers, DJs and producers Haojun Pan and Yenk have spent a decade building Menslies from a friendship around club music into a studio that has quietly documented Beijing’s nightlife — years in-house at the venue Zhao Dai, plus work for labels, promoters and artists across the scene. An exhibition at WarmUp in Kyoto gathers ten years of gig posters that abandon grid systems in favour of something improvised. Making the digital output look analogue is always the last step, a move Pan likens to hualong dianjing: painting the dragon, then dotting its eyes.
