Austrian renewable-energy practitioner Jonathan Schreiber learned to build wind turbines from Scottish self-taught engineer Hugh Piggott, and since 2013 his PureSelfMade project has carried Piggott’s open design forward in hands-on workshops. Participants don’t assemble a kit: they carve the wooden blades, wind the copper coils, cut the steel and build the whole generator themselves. It’s energy independence taught as a craft, with English-language sessions in the UK in the works. Source: Core77
