CJ Reay’s Anarchist Prayer Quilts: Punk Poster Slogans Sewn by Hand in Felt as a Rebuke to AI Slop

Known for his two-tone riso posters as Black Lodge Press, set in the Black Flag-famous Friz Quadrata, CJ Reay spent a summer hand-stitching 14 felt-appliqué banners that turn his slogans into something soft and slow. Drawing on Welsh and Amish quilting, miners’ wives’ strike banners and a 19th-century star block from a Durham village called Pity Me, the works set human handwork against data centres and tech lords. The quilts show at Memory Dance, Sheffield (5–28 November) and Base Gallery, Lincoln (4–31 December). Source: The Guardian
