Jacob Hashimoto builds his installations from bamboo and printed Japanese paper, suspending thousands of kite-like elements into what he calls a cloud canopy. ‘Giant Arc’, now at SFMOMA, is the largest work he has made: nearly 75,000 components rippling wall to wall in clusters of colour and pattern. Sunlight through the museum’s windows shifts the piece’s character across the course of a day.
