Elizabeth Goodspeed on Szilveszter Makó and the Commercial Appeal of the Auteur

Szilveszter Makó treats his human subjects the way a lepidopterist treats a butterfly — posed, pinned and arranged inside box-like sets, wrapped in sculptural garments, lit in the muted ochres of a cubist painting. The 34-year-old Hungarian photographer’s style is now nearly as recognisable as the celebrities he shoots.
