Bruce Mau Design’s new identity for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet leans on an emphasised “W” to stand for the discipline of ballet, then undercuts it with a typeface system full of “rogue characters” that behave a little like dancers breaking formation. The palette of prairie blues, performance-space blacks and studio whites draws on the company’s archive, Winnipeg’s landscape and 20th-century railway logos.
