Spanning all six lanes of Interstate 25 between Denver and Colorado Springs, CDOT’s wildlife-only overpass, the largest of its kind currently in North America, is planted edge to edge with grass so elk, bears and coyotes can reach roughly 39,000 acres of habitat without touching tarmac. Before it was completed in December 2025, migration season could mean an animal killed on the road nearly every day; within nine months, wildlife-vehicle collisions on the stretch fell by 91 percent. Infrastructure designed for non-human users, with results that are hard to argue with. Source: Colossal
