Following surveys of butterflies, birds, oceans and trees, Phaidon turns to fungi. Out this October, Fungi: The World of Mushrooms gathers more than 200 photographs, artworks and historical objects across several millennia, from ancient records to contemporary practice. Among the inclusions are Riitta Ikonen and Anni Koponen’s uncanny in-situ costumes and Carsten Höller’s “Upside Down Mushroom Room” — evidence that mycology has always been as much an aesthetic subject as a scientific one.
