The name predates the site itself, borrowed from WikiWikiWeb and the Hawaiian word wiki, meaning quick. “Wikipedia pre-dates the attention economy,” says Justin Scherer, UX designer at the Wikimedia Foundation — no infinite scroll, only rabbit holes.
