Suzanne Jongmans: Renaissance Portraits Assembled from Packaging Foam and Fruit Mesh

Suzanne Jongmans dresses her sitters in padded packaging, foam and the mesh sleeves that keep fruit from bruising, then photographs them as Renaissance portraits. The compositions borrow directly from Leonardo’s “Lady with an Ermine” and Antonello da Messina’s “Portrait of a Young Man”, with lush velvet and deep grounds lending discarded plastic an unlikely refinement. The friction between debris and finery is the entire point.
