Kwazi Design, working between New Delhi and Kolkata, has spent years photographing the letterforms that cover its hometown — shopfronts, signage, hand-painted notices and the vernacular type most people walk past. The resulting archive, Type Around Town, is a departure from the studio’s branding practice and a homage to the city’s particular relationship with the written word. It argues that a typographic culture is hyper-local before it is anything else.
