Dan Rimada and Gulce Kilkis spent years photographing the cats that live on bodega shelves and countertops across New York, where they work as mousers and become neighbourhood fixtures. Technically the arrangement violates the city’s health code — the tabby asleep on the Doritos is illegal — which the book treats as a quiet absurdity rather than a problem. The result is part street photography, part argument for the city’s least official employees.
