Ruth Borgenicht links thousands of individually-thrown stoneware rings into elaborate chainmail sculptures that hang tapestry-like from walls or unfurl into three-dimensional biomorphic forms. Inspired by a medieval armor exhibition four decades ago, the New Jersey-based artist finds in clay what mathematics couldn’t offer — the irreducible imprint of every hand gesture. A solo exhibition at NL=US Art in Rotterdam is planned for February 2027.
