Neo Hokusai: 750,000 Dahlias Carpet Brussels’ Grand-Place

For its 24th edition, Brussels’ Flower Carpet filled the Grand-Place with more than 750,000 fresh dahlias across nearly 14,000 square feet, staged from 13–16 August. Artist Hiro Sugiyama designed the composition — titled “Neo Hokusai” — as a tribute to the ukiyo-e master, marking 160 years of relations between Belgium and Japan. It is a monumental image with a four-day lifespan, built to be seen from the surrounding balconies and then dismantled.
