Fourteen Calbee products went two-tone from late May, their foil bags stripped back to silver and a single ink after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz squeezed naphtha supplies and drove up the cost of petroleum-based pigment. A small label in the corner explains it plainly — 石油原料節約パッケージ, “petroleum ink-saving packaging.” It’s a rare case of a supply shock rewriting a design default in public, on the shelf, where anyone can see it.
