‘Hold to This Earth’ Surveys the Abundance of American Indigenous Contemporary Art

Opening next week at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, ‘Hold to This Earth’ gathers nearly 70 works by 38 artists representing 35 Tribal Nations — the largest presentation of American Indigenous contemporary art in the U.K. to date. Drawn from the Tia Collection, the show spans Jeffrey Gibson’s beaded sculptural weavings, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith’s canoe series, and Raven Halfmoon’s fingerprint-textured ceramics, honoring ancestral knowledge while asserting a steadfastly contemporary presence.
