Rocastle, a bespoke blackletter typeface for Arsenal by David Rudnick

David Rudnick’s Rocastle: A Four-Year, Hand-Drawn Blackletter for Arsenal

Designer David Rudnick, with Léa Bruneau and Arsenal Creative Studio lead Johnnie Campbell, spent roughly four years drawing Rocastle, a bespoke three-weight blackletter for Arsenal named after the late midfielder David Rocastle. Built through thousands of hand-drawn iterations and research into the club’s archive of crests and programmes, nearly every letter was made specifically for the system, so it reads as both historic and contemporary. It completes Arsenal’s type family alongside Northbank and Chapman, for the places where football crosses into fashion, art and music. Source: It’s Nice That
